The main reason I built it in the first place was to record TV from Dish Network. At the time Dish would rent you a DVR but it was way too expensive, considering the first HTPC was pieced together from old hardware laying around plus a TV Tuner card. Now that DVRs are a lot cheaper to rent I’m still sticking with my old but reliable HTPC since it costs me $0.00 a month to use and records in a friendly MPEG format if I choose to archive a recording. Welcome to the club!
