Despite having been a huge DN3D fan since its release in 1996, it’s taken me this long to give the fan-made “HRP” (High Resolution Pack) a try. It takes the game’s classic graphics and gameplay elements and puts them in overdrive. The result? A cleaner, high-res game that feels more natural than the original.

Hi Rob! Thanks for the nice article about our humble HRP community project. :)

The only thing I’d like to correct is what you write about lack of bump mapping. Actually, we use normal mapping which is available when using the EDuke32 Polymer renderer. If you take a look at some screenshots on our homepage (http://hrp.duke4.net/media.php), you can clearly see how structured the textures look with the correct settings.

Please keep checking back for updates on the project. While it is maybe done by 80-85% by now (only very few models and textures are missing, mostly in the later episodes of the full game), there is always something to fix, improve, replace.

A maintenance release for the HRP is scheduled for Xmas 2012 btw, so stay tuned. ^^

That was poor wording on my part. What I meant by that was while there is depth to many of the textures, there are many more that remain flat. You can see a screenshot above where I show off the depth on the floor at the end of episode 1.

Thanks for checking out the article and huge thanks for working on the project! Love live Duke :D
