As much as I appreciate Surface in idea, it just had so little chance to succeed. Even if Ballmer and co went about things a different way, I just can’t see Windows on ARM being compelling when both Android and iOS are well-established.

It helps that I generally don’t like the way Microsoft does its mobile OSes (tiles, namely)… I prefer good ole icons. It wouldn’t surprise me if either iOS or Android changed that in the future as well though, to keep things fresh and interesting.

I think Microsoft needs to focus mostly on its smartphones at the moment and then Surface Pro. Make either of these platforms truly successful before going on to the next thing.
