To those looking to build the biggest, baddest high-end PC around, the wait for Sandy Bridge-E was no doubt painful. But, it's finally here, and much to our expectations, Intel has once again solidified its position as the performance leader. So let's take a look at what it offers, and compare it to the i7-990X, i7-2600K and AMD FX-8150.
I'd like to think that I'm the kind of person who doesn't hold a grudge, but after bouts of unsuccessful overclocking runs with Intel motherboards in the past, I just about gave up. Until I decided to investigate further to see where things stood today. Have my opinions changed after overclocking with Intel's DP67BG this past weekend?
The long-awaited launch of Intel's Sandy Bridge is here, and we have all of the details of what to expect, what you need to "upgrade", what models will be available at launch, and of course, their prices. We're taking a look at two of the higest-end offerings, the Core i5-2500K and i7-2600K - both quad-cores and both fully unlocked.
AMD invited both media and vendors down to Los Angeles last week to learn about the company's upcoming products and technologies, such as the Fusion-based Llano CPU (err, APU) and Radeon HD 6800 series. We were there, and have some preliminary information on both, as well as some light information about the event itself.
Most of today's desktop CPUs, including budget models, tend to be good for overclocking. But for those who are looking for the ultimate in tweaking ability, Intel's mainstream models have left a bit to be desired. With the K series, though, it aims to remedy that situation by offering unlocked models at affordable prices.
