How do you make one of the best mobile drives on the market even better? Make it faster, of course. We are taking a look at Seagates latest high-end notebook drive, which offers not only high density, but high-performance.
Seagate announced a new addition to their Savvio lineup earlier this week, the 15K. These new drives boast impressive specs all around, including the fact that it's contained in a 2.5" frame. Even though these are the fastest drives available on the market, they use far less power than their 3.5" counterparts.
Seagate made quite a splash earlier this year with their 750GB hard drives. They have since released an ES version of the drive with a far higher reliability factor making them perfectly suitable for RAID and business applications.
It has been a while since we've seen a capture of the top spot in the mobile storage market, but Toshiba has come along and delivered a 200GB 2.5" drive. What the drive adds in extra storage though, it takes away in speed.
Though there are larger drives available, they do not fit into everyones budget. Simply going from 500GB to 320GB cuts the price in half, which makes this almost a steal. We will compare with one of our recently reviewed 500GB drives and see how it stacks up.
