Microsoft Allows Students To Steal Office... For $59.95

If you are a student who's planning to steal Microsoft Office 2007, then why not steal it directly from the source? For a $59.95US fee, of course. Yes, if you are a student and can prove it, Microsoft will sell let you steal their top-end Office 2007 offering for only $59.95US, a very good deal if you are in need of a robust office suite. Not in the US? You can purchase it for a yearly fee instead.

Ultimate 2007, which retails for $600+ elsewhere, contains all of the office products you will ever need, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access, Outlook, Groove, OneNote and InfoPath. Note also that this will be a downloadable version, so if you had plans to purchase a dirt-cheap copy and resell it, you might have a rough time.


We definitely think it’s a great deal. It gives students easier access to our premium productivity suite Office Ultimate 2007, which includes tools they’ll be able to put to good use in their studies such as Office Groove 2007 and Office OneNote 2007. Beginning Sept. 12, Microsoft will launch a special Web-based promotion exclusively for students called The Ultimate Steal. Students who are actively enrolled at eligible educational institutions will be able to acquire Office Ultimate 2007 via the Web at the low student price of US$59.95.

Wow, amazing deal! I'll probably bite on this before the year is over. I've tried both Word and Power Point on Office 2007 and I love it! Making flowcharts on PP has never been easier and looked better.

This honestly isn't anything new. We have been able to purchase Microsoft software from the IU bookstore since the Win98 days. It's a deal that IU worked out with Microsoft. Just last week I picked up Vista Ultimate for 20 dollars... only to have it sit, unused for ever and ever and ever, amen.

If your a student, pick this up. While Vista is terrible, Office 2007 is a sure winner. While your at it, don't forget to download the compatibility patch so prior versions of office and it's files can work as they should in 2007, as well as it gives you the ability to open 2007 files in Office 2003.

In the past, haven't you had to go through your school directly in order to get these discounts? With this new method, you can do it yourself as long as you can prove you go to school (although it will likely be exploited like Apple's student discounts).

Oh, and why the hell would you pay that much for Vista Ultimate? I agree that Office is a great office suite, but it still has a few oddities that really drive me bonkers (especially with graphs).

I was deliberately making it out to sound like $20 for Ultimate is expensive :-)

Which it is.

That said, I'm still hoping that SP1 will fix most of my main gripes. I installed Vista on my sisters PC as a "test"... I wanted to see if someone who is not a computer geek could handle Vista. She's been recently asking me to put XP back on and even my little brother said, and I quote, "Why do they have to make it so complicated? XP is simple."

That about sums it up.

Meh, I bet they feel that way because they are already use to XP. If they were use to Vista (pretend it was at least as stable as XP) and you installed XP they might feel the same way.

Once people get use to an OS they feel every other OS is complicated.
