I have doubts either of the big three console makers will "learn" anything from either the Steam box or OUYA, but that's fine. At least as consumers, we'll have the option between the two sets.

Really crossing my fingers for this console. OUYA epithomizes much of what I would like to see in consoles. Very particularly an open architecture model and free of a central and unique gatekeeper. This is the type of console I believe every consumer can truly benefit.

If Steam launches its Steam Box and OUYA satisfies the expectations, this will be 2 consoles already showing the industry and the market that open architectures are the true way for rapid innovation and the ones that can provide the widest range of products to its consumers.

Hopefully they will also help put pressure on the current console industry and readjust it, where manufacturers understand that the console is not part of the experience. What truly determines console gaming, what leads people to it, what motivates millions of gamers, is the controller and the TV. That's the experience people are after. I'm waiting for the day when we get free of the console as an artificially imposed central feature to console gaming. On that day, I'll finally buy myself a console.
