Speaking as a former member of that fanbase, I don't think there is anything Wargaming can do that would harm what's left of the Supreme Commander franchise. GPG trashed it with SupCom 2 by designing a game that was a better fit for a smartphone, so making SC3 free to play couldn't harm anything at this point.

I'm not a fan of GPG's games, but that thought scares me. It bugs me to no end when a company acquires another and then changes how they go about business. Companies like GPG have huge fanbases for a reason... so leave them alone.

<i>"Let’s just hope that the F2P-focused Wargaming isn’t going to direct GPG’s future games in that direction."</i>

It's very likely it will, unfortunately. GPG kickstarter project that ended becoming at the center of the GPG financial difficulties and was eventually cancelled a few days ago, was Wildman. To the chagrin of a good deal of its fans (and one of the reasons it received so little support at Kickstarter), GPG was apparently trying to move into MOBA-like territory.

It's possible that Wargaming wants to to move into other areas of gaming, but I suspect Wargaming will want to see MOBA or something similar from GPG.
