In a bit of unexpected news, Blizzard has canceled its popular BlizzCon gaming conference for 2012, opting to hold the next one in 2013 instead. This move was done for no other reason but focus, as the company is currently working on three different games or expansions and wants to make sure that those get out in due time.
The biggest release is of course Diablo 3, the long-awaited aRPG expected to launch later this quarter. On the World of Warcraft side of things there will be the content-packed Mists of Pandaria expansion. Arguably one of the most notable expansions to date, MoP will give players a new level cap to work towards (85>90) and even a new class (Monk) and race (Pandaren) to play as. This expansion has no announced release date.
Finally, StarCraft II fans are anticipating the release of Heart of the Swarm, the first official expansion pack. Though there’s sure to be lots here for multi-player fans, there will also be content included for those who want to continue the single-player story. Like Mists of Pandaria, Heart of the Swarm has no expected release date.
For those who enjoyed attending BlizzCon, the loss of the event this year no doubt burns – but at least it’s for a good reason, right?
