Dell has long been considered a good choice for those just looking to get setup with a desktop or notebook and want good customer service behind it, but as far as the company’s other products go (aside from monitors), reception has often been lukewarm. And in some cases, the company has been known to discontinue its products without warning, leaving many who purchased the product or planned to with a bad taste in their mouths.
That tradition continues over to the Streak 7 tablet, which the company has just discontinued. At the same time, it seems likely that the company has also fully pulled out of the Android tablet market, though nothing definitive has been said by Dell itself. The company has claimed in the past that Android tablets were just not profitable (for it), so it would make sense that the company would look to the future, which of course involves Windows 8.
On the page for the Dell Streak, the company states that it is “Always innovating”, which to me seems a bit ironic. Always innovating doesn’t equate in my mind to releasing products and then pulling the plug on them not long after. I never used a Streak, but it never received much attention, whereas in the Android market, Samsung has. Will things change once Windows 8 hits and the company can start rolling out tablets based on it? I hope so.
