Duke Nukem Forever… the butt of a billion jokes, and the biggest cause of grief for Duke fans. This game is unlike most others, because its development cycle has been at points, bizarre. It began in 1997, and has crossed the paths of multiple developers, with the most recent one being Gearbox Software. Since its original unveiling, it became questionable as to whether we’d ever see the game released, but now more than ever, we can actually be confident that it will happen.
Publisher 2K Games no doubt wants to see some return on its investment here, and Gearbox has been hard at work ever since it gained the reigns of the project. A couple of months ago, 2K Games offered a voucher to owners of Borderlands that available exclusive beta access as soon as the game is done broiling, and that in itself told us that the game’s development cycle wouldn’t actually last “forever” after all.
Need even more proof that the game is on its way? Thanks to CrunchGear’s sleuthing editors, the game was spotted on Amazon.com and GameStop for pre-order, with a date of May 31, 2011. As that date falls on a Tuesday, a typical release day, it seems to be reasonable. Plus, the game has been in development since computers were made out of wood, so that’s another good clue.
I dunno about you guys, but I can’t wait to kick ass and chew bubblegum!
Duke Nukem Forever has popped up on Amazon and GameStop with a May 31, 2011 release date. Considering both pre-order pages are linked from the official Duke Nukem Forever Web site there’s probably a good chance that the game will be spinning inside your 360/PS3 on (or by) that date.
