GOG.com, has been around for quite some time but if you’ve been living under a rock. GOG is well known for having nothing but DRM free games and the ability to play old DOS based games on modern Windows or Linux platforms; today, it opens the doors to the Mac platform as well.
To kick off this inclusion of a new platform, GOG is currently offering for a limited time the Mac & PC Essentials with 50% off titles such as The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, SimCity 2000™ Special Edition, Theme Hospital, POSTAL: Classic and Uncut, Little Big Adventure (Relentless: Twinsen’s Adventure) and Crusader: No Remorse™. This sale will end in approximately 5 days.
GOG is also having a massive sale of Interplay games with the Pay What You Want formula. The amount of games vary based on how much you want to pay but if you pay the minimum $34.99 you will receive all 32 games currently involved in the sale, that is a saving of $192.68!
The deal does not end there, if a game comes with any extra content such as sound tracks, game guide, artwork, etc, they will all be included with your purchase, no matter what you pay. This sale is roughly only good for another 12 days and 18 hours, ending on November 1st in North America.
I have seen Interplay at the forefront of many sales and the Pay What You Want method is the most unique I’ve seen them involved with yet. Obviously, depending on how well this goes, this could be a hot ticket promotion for other developers trying to earn a little extra cash from their old catalog. The inclusion of the Mac platform is good news, but a problem I see is that not many developers cared or care to include Mac into their development cycle, and I think the library will be a little barren when it comes to choice on that platform. Nonetheless, GOG is obviously providing more choice to their users and that is never a bad thing.
