This past October, Nokia unveiled what it touted as being the first “real Windows Phone”, the Lumia series, featuring Windows Phone Mango. At the time, an unfortunate fact was that the top-end model, the Lumia 800, wasn’t to be made available in North America. But a fix for that takes little more than a couple of months and a brand-new model, that being the Lumia 900.
Compared to the Lumia 800, the 900 isn’t a major improvement. It features a larger 4.3″ screen (vs. 3.7″), supports 4G LTE and has a front-facing camera (fixing a rather major complaint of the 800). Other specs include an 800×480 screen (a little lackluster), 512MB of RAM (also lackluster) and a single-core CPU (once again, lackluster).
For those hoping to get the phone on a non-AT&T carrier, it’s not happening thanks to an exclusive agreement with Nokia. That’s a bit unfortunate, as Windows Phone is having a hard enough time gaining marketshare – exclusive contracts like this sure aren’t going to help.
There’s no word on pricing yet. That’ll come when the phone sees its actual launch in a couple of months.
