Every so often, a high-end gaming PC gets announced that impresses me enough to talk about it, and today’s announcement of ORIGIN PC’s “The Big O” is one to catch my attention. In the high-end PC game, there seems to be little that can be done to differ from the competition, but ORIGIN PC has certainly pulled out all the stops to remain on top… and it’s made possible with a $16,999 configuration.
At this PC’s heart is EVGA’s SR2 motherboard, and that could only mean one thing… dual CPU’s. The CPU model chosen for this top model is Intel’s top-end Xeon X5680, a six-core Gulftown offering. Of course, it doesn’t end there, as there are two of them, for a total of 12 cores and 24 threads. Oh, and for those interested… they’re both overclocked to 4.3GHz.
As if that wasn’t enough, the PC can be configured with up to 24GB of Corsair GT memory, it features not one, but two 1000W power supplies, quad OCZ 50GB Vertex 2’s in a RAID 0 configuration, a Blu-ray burner, custom chassis, quad EVGA GeForce GTX 480 FTW’s in SLI and more. Did I forget to mention the full-system water-cooling?
Even with such a powerful beast at your disposal, you might enjoy sitting back on occasion to just game it up on a console, and for that purpose, this same PC, even in its starting configuration, includes a built-in Xbox 360 Slim that’s integrated into the bottom front of the chassis. The Xbox 360 logo is seen along with the controller ports. You could use the same display for both the PC and Xbox if you wanted, but both will require different inputs (Component or HDMI for Xbox and DVI for PC, as an example).
Whew, if this isn’t a beast of a machine, what could be? For a better look at the internals of The Big O here.
