In celebration of the recent “The Sacrifice” DLC launch for Left for Dead 1 and 2, Valve is offering an incredible deal on both titles. Own the first, but not the second? Valve is offering its latest and greatest Zombie shooter for a mere $6.79 USD. Don’t own either? You can pick both up for $10.19 USD, which is roughly 33% of the standard bundle price of $29.99.
On the surface, this might seem like a simple sale, because Valve is a company that often holds some of the best PC game sales around. But as Ars Technica believes, there’s an entirely different reason behind this one. The theory? Valve is sticking it to Microsoft. The reason is thanks to a point I mentioned in my “The New-Age Nickel & Diming” article… while Valve gives DLC free to PC gamers, it has no choice in the matter when it’s distributed on the Xbox 360.
For Xbox 360 gamers, no DLC for Valve titles has been free (to my knowledge), as Microsoft demands that there be a fee… there’s no such thing as free DLC in Microsoft’s world. On that platform, Valve has charged the least it could, which is about $7, and in spite, it has priced the entire game (which includes completely free DLC) for less than that, at $6.79. It’s hard to pass up a deal like that.
Seriously… how awesome is that!? Valve, you rock.
