There are hundreds of options when searching for a computer case. For those who just can’t make up their minds, ASUS has come to the rescue. The solution? A box that holds the actual motherboard but also doubles as the computer case.
Yes, you read that correctly. The cardboard packaging can also be used as a case. Demoed at this year’s CeBIT in Hanover, Germany, the box has punch out holes for ventilation, the motherboard I/O and areas to add other components such as a hard drive or optical drive.
June will see the motherboard manufacturer ship one of its mini-ATX motherboards in this packaging… form factor… whatever. Just don’t expect there to be much of a warranty on the case.
Asus said the box is intended to allow PC enthusiasts to get their new computers up and running quickly while they search for the perfect case. “Some people spend a long time looking for a case, so this box is all they need until they find something,” said Lee.
