OCZ Launches Agility 4 Model SSDs

It was only a matter of time. After initially launching the Vertex 4 SSD as its new flagship solid-state drive, we have the balanced price/performance alternative with the Agility 4. Just like its faster sibling, the Agility 4 is powered by a dual-core Marvell controller running an in-house Indilinx firmware package.

The 128GB Ability 4 boasts a respectable 58,000 read and 72,000 random 4K write IOPS. Sequential performance is listed at 400MB/s reads and 300MB/s writes. Other details are fairly typical, with “2Xnm Synchronous” MLC flash, SATA III 6Gb/s port in a 2.5” form factor, AES 256-bit encryption, and a three year warranty. Capacities will range from 64GB up to 512GB. We don’t have launch prices, however Amazon is already listing them with the 128GB model at $150. Users after more capacity may appreciate the lower $265 price of the 256GB model.

Unlike SandForce controllers which rely on data compression to reach their peak speeds, the Everest 2 controller will deliver the same performance regardless of the type of data involved. OCZ is also touting its Ndurance 2.0 Technology, which is its answer to flash longevity and minimizing write amplification. Overall the Agility 4 is yet another attractive option for consumers to choose from, and can only help keep the pressure on solid-state drive prices.
