SpotCam might not be well-known on these shores, but the company is no stranger to the home surveillance market. Based in Taipei, Taiwan, SpotCam sells its products here in the US at both Amazon and Newegg, with the company’s new HD Eva camera soon to join the others.
Most of SpotCam’s cameras offer the same basic set of features, so where HD Eva sets itself apart is with the ability to pan and tilt, yet another feature that will help you get the angle you need. This model also has improved night vision thanks to a bump to 18 IR LEDs.
SpotCam’s HD Eva offers 360° of motion, a wide-angle view of 110°, an 8x digital zoom, motion/audio/disconnection detection, 256-bit SSL security, two-way communication, and playback on a PC or on a mobile device. The camera records at 720/30, which might seem a bit weak in 2016, but it makes sense since 1080p would require a lot more bandwidth to utilize, mostly with regards to sending the video upstream.
Speaking of that, for those who don’t want to record to their PC, SpotCam offers a cloud service that scales based on how long the recording is. 24-hour recording is absolutely free; 3-day is $3.95/mo ($39/yr); 7-day is $5.95/mo ($59/yr); and 30-day is $19.95/mo ($199/yr). The company notes that you are able to stream from this cloud feed 24/7 and not incur extra charges.
