Just a little over a week ago, AMD released its regular release Radeon Pro Crimson ReLive Edition driver in the form of 17.10. That release helped celebrate the launch of the Radeon Pro WX 9100, a card similar to the Frontier Edition in specs, but with tunings to make it a true high-end workstation card (rather than a workstation card for enthusiasts). Now, the company is celebrating the first year of its Enterprise Driver program, which sees a certifiably stable driver released each quarter.
This latest driver, 17.Q4, notably adds Citrix XenApp and VMware Linked Clone support, as well as optimizations for game development workloads, and also some refinement for screen capture. That latter feature is an important one to note, because while it’d be easy to jump to the conclusion that the de facto enterprise driver doesn’t feature ReLive for screen capture, it does, and it’s a great tool to have on-tap.
Another notable feature, or perhaps service, is “One Driver” support. This is fresh news to me, so bear with me. Based on what’s said in the press release, AMD will work with companies that want to use AMD in multiple areas of their business, and would like to have a single driver package take care of everything. That includes GPUs in virtualized environments, as well.
Per the slide above, One Driver could include support for the entire current-gen Radeon Pro product stack (including Frontier Edition and SSG), as well as the now-aging FirePro W and S series. AMD states that current-gen gaming Radeons can be included “on demand”. And, since we’re talking about enterprise environments, it’s nice to see that Linux support is included in One Driver.
