Synology Announces New Plus NASes: DS220+, DS420+, DS720+ & DS920+

Synology, a force to be reckoned with in the NAS swim lane, has announced a new lineup to its NAS portfolio this past week: DS220+, DS420+, DS720+, and DS920+.

The Plus series is one of Synology’s most popular, with a bunch of them having been put to good use in the homes of multiple Techgage staffers over the years. These models are designed to offer plenty of versatility, security, and in some cases, expansion. The DS220+ and DS420+ are both equipped with Intel’s dual-core Celeron J4025, while the DS720+ and DS920+ get an upgrade to the quad-core Celeron J4125. Only the DS920+ is granted the privilege of allowing its stock memory to be upgraded (to 8GB).

The most noteworthy improvement to these NASes is the addition of dual M.2 NVMe slots, so that users can take advantage of super-fast SSD storage. These should offer a dramatic performance increase, especially in multi-user environments. All of these new NAS offerings include dual 1GbE RJ-45 network ports, which can be configured in several different ways for performance and redundancy.
