AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Gaming Processor Review

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla kicks things off to a good start for AMD’s Ryzen 7 7800X3D, with it shacking up alongside the 7950X3D at the top of the 1080p chart. At 1440p, performance deltas between each chip are reduced, but the 7800X3D still manages to align itself with Intel’s Core i9-13900K.

Borderlands 3

It seems as though this modest 8-core 7800X3D has something to prove. Once again, it slots in just behind the 7950X3D, with the 13900K just behind it. That’s a good look, and so too is the fact that the 5800X3D manages to place itself super-close to Intel’s 13th-gen and AMD’s Zen 4 chips thanks to its additional cache. The performance gap between the top and bottom chips here is pretty impressive – nearly 90 FPS. At 1440p, the 7800X3D actually manages to take the top spot from the 7950X3D.

Company of Heroes 3

Company of Heroes 3 isn’t the most graphically intensive game we’ve come across, but with the right CPU, you can see performance that’s much better than lower-end models. At 1080p, the 8-core 7800X3D takes the top spot, while it effectively shares the top spot in the 1440p chart with the 7950X3D and Intel’s 13900K.

Cyberpunk 2077

The 7800X3D has been making this an easy review to write, thanks to the fact that it’s keeping close to the top in each chart, if not taking the top spot. That’s the case with Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p. At 1440p, the entire tested stack is too close in performance to really call it – except to say that the Zen 3 chips definitively fall behind the Zen 4 counterparts – unless, of course, 3D V-Cache is present.

Death Stranding

As we covered in our look at the 7950X3D last week, Death Stranding is a title that didn’t scale with the 7950X3D (vs. 7950X) as much as we hoped it would, but the 7800X3D spices things up by placing itself a good distance ahead of the 7700X. Overall, though, this title loves Intel CPUs, helping the 13th-gen chips uncharacteristically leap well ahead of the 3D V-Cache AMD chips.

Dying Light 2

It’s immediately obvious that as much as Death Stranding loved Intel CPUs, Dying Light 2 gives favor to the cache-packed AMD chips – especially 5800X3D. The mood has become a bit deathly here, so let’s move onto some more lively games on the next page!
