Transparency Adaptive AA: A Closer Look

When we first explained TAAA in our Nvidia GeForce 7800 GTX preview, we included a comparison screenshot from early on in Half-Life 2. A scene from the train station with lots of chain-link fences—a prime candidate for TAAA. Still, it was a shot from the vendor, and we’d like to see the effects in our own tests.

This is a great article with comparitive screenshots. Check it out at ExtremeTech.

Intel permits firms to sell AMD

The wire claims that Intel has told its OEMs they “are now allowed” to buy AMD microprocessors.

Is this true? First it would imply that Intel told its OEMs they weren’t allowed to buy AMD microprocessors in the first place, so making the whole antitrust legal cafuffle in the US redundant. And demonstrating a certain gutlessness on behalf of the OEMs.

Regardless of whether this is true, I want to see AMD more readily available, especially from Dell. Check out the posting at The Inquirer.

IBM officially kills OS/2

BIG BLUE has hammered the final nails into OS/2’s coffin. It said that all sales of OS/2 will end on the 23rd of December this year, and support for the pre-emptive multitasking operating system will end on the 31st December 2006.

20 years is not bad for an OS. In fact, I didn’t realize businesses still used OS/2. Check out the posting here.

Optimus Keyboard

This is the coolest keyboard, EVER. Each key on the keyboard is an actual display, and capable of displaying characters, icons and anything else.

If this comes into production, I’m sure it would cost a fortune. Check it out here.

High Power PW480-102DF Power Supply Review

Today, we have a unit on the bench that I think encompasses the necessities of what a power supply should have and be. High Power has been in existence since 2002 and has put out a number of quality units. Their latest unit, the High Power PW480 102DF really shows a nice mix of flash and usable features.

Vantec NexStar 3 Review

Overall the Vantec NexStar 3 is an outstanding hard drive enclosure where it does not only deliver the performance but also comes out top on quality and looks. However if you are changing hard drives often, it is not that feasible that you get the Vantec NexStar 3 because it is not easy to swap hard drives from the enclosure. The price of the NexStar 3 is nearly the same with NexStar 2 at USD50. If you are thinking of get a “cool” hard drive enclosure, the Vantec NexStar 3 is one of the best choices for you.

Aspire X-Cruiser Case Review

Aspire have released quite a multi-function enclosure. Overall the styling of the case is very nice. The three analog gauges on the front not only provide a good amount of information, but also a nice graphic feature. The blue black and silver color scheme really work, and the inclusion of the led fans provide a nice glow in the dark look.

DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D Review

The DFI LanParty series is legendary among overclockers. We haven’t seen any other board offer that many overclocking features. For example, being able to your run your memory at voltages of more than 3.3V is pretty unique. A well thought out components layout and little on-board switches make overclockers happy.

How to Never Pay a Hotel Phone Bill Again

Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a signaling protocol for establishing sessions in an IP network. But if you are like most of us, that means nothing to you. In layman’s terms, SIP is a method by which various computers can talk to one another so that they can complete voice calls.

MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum Review

The MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard is any overclocker’s dream motherboard. It offers rock solid stability even when running at 250HTT around the clock! And having the ability to do up to 355HTT steadily, we take our hats off to this champ. Being the best nForce 3 based motherboard we have tested up to date, the K8N Neo2 Platinum is the “baddest” and meanest socket 939 motherboard out in the market.

PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 510 Express/SLI Review

The Turbo-Cool 510 Express/SLI’s main selling point is its suitability for SLI videocard systems. This starts with the pair of 12V six-pin video card power connectors on the unit and ends with the fact that the power supply is one of only four officially recommended by nVidia for use with SLI videocard computer systems. While the 510W sustained of the Turbo-Cool 510 Express/SLI might appear to be pedestrian, it can handle up to 650W at peak, and that is drastically even more than enough for an overclocked SLI desktop PC.

US TV stations say ready for ’09 switch to digital

U.S. local television broadcasters said on Tuesday they would accept a 2009 deadline to switch to airing only higher-quality digital signals, a date being considered by lawmakers.

However, they urged Congress to give consumers the choice of receiving the new signals as-is or converting them to analog so that they would work on older television sets — and to require cable companies to carry extra channels broadcasters offer.

We’ll have to see if this will actually fall through or not. Check out the post at Yahoo News.
