I gave some first impressions about Dead Island in a post yesterday, but one thing it lacked that I would have liked to include is a gameplay video. So, I recorded one last night while ripping up a couple minor quests with my brother, and I have to say, this game doesn’t like to be recorded at all. Neither FRAPS nor PlayClaw was able to record the game without lag, but fortunately the end result looks better performance-wise than what I experienced.
That said, this is a rough video. It proved difficult to coordinate with my brother to make sure that the entire video was smooth, and we were both still learning the game at the time. That said, if you watch this full-screen, and with full volume, you can likely get a good feel for the game and its atmosphere. A couple of parts are a bit slow, but there are some later parts worth checking out, like a beheading and stepping into a truck that seemed impossible to drive.
The game isn’t perfect, but it’s still proving to be a good deal of fun so far.
