Welp, there we have it… another contest wrapped up. After a long two weeks and countless entries, we compiled our list of capable entrants, drew a name from our virtual hat, and that was… crowTrobot! Huge congrats to them, and I look forward to hearing their thoughts on the 3D technology once they receive the product and get some hands-on experience with it.
As awesome as our 3D Vision contest was, don’t go thinking that it can’t be topped, because we accomplish that next Monday. As mentioned last week, Techgage launched on March 1, 2005, making next Monday our fifth birthday. Things were a lot different back then, that’s for sure. Around the same time, AMD’s “AMD64” Socket 939 processors were the hot commodity, Logitech’s MX518 gaming mouse was impressing the press all over, and Microsoft released the 64-bit version of Windows XP.
To look back at that time, and to see where we are now… it’s just incredible. It feels like there hasn’t been any truly major innovation in some regards in the past couple of years, but when you look at the big picture, you realize that’s not at all the case. Today’s technology is simply amazing, and to picture what the landscape will look like in five years is undeniably exciting.
To help celebrate our 5th birthday in style, we’re going to kill two birds with one stone. During the month of March, we’re going to host a survey that will help us gain insight into your minds, and understand what you want to see more of, less of, and what we could generally do in order to keep you coming back. As a reward for your couple of minutes of devotion, you’ll have the chance to win a pimped-out gaming PC.
Over the course of the past week, we’ve been revealing the components to our gaming PC one piece at a time in our forum, and we’ll conveniently be posting the final component the day prior to the contest start. So far, we’ve revealed Gigabyte’s P55A-UD7, Corsair’s 8GB DDR3 memory kit, Western Digital’s 2TB Caviar Black, Logitech’s G19 keyboard and G9x mouse, along with its X-540 surround sound speakers, and also TRENDnet’s TEW-671BR wireless router and Ultrasone’s high-end DJ1 PRO headphones.
Whew, and we’re only half-done! This week, we’ll reveal the important parts of the PC, including the CPU, GPU, PSU and so forth, so you don’t want to miss it. Even more so, you won’t want to miss the chance to win this bad boy, so as always, stay tuned.
