AMD Releases Its Second HBM-infused GPU: Radeon Fury

A mere three weeks after AMD launched its latest high-end card, the Radeon Fury X, we have the next step down, simply called Radeon Fury. Whereas the “X” model was liquid-cooled, the regular Fury sticks to regular air, and similarly, the core, core clock, and select other specs have seen a slight decline as well.

Fury X packed in a staggering 4,096 cores, but Fury follows not too far behind with 3,584. Texture units likewise drops from 256 down to 224. Even the clock speed was affected, dropping 50MHz to sit at an even 1GHz. Like the X variant, Fury sports 4GB of HBM, a 4096-bit memory interface, 64 ROPs, and a 275W TDP.

Admittedly, I didn’t find the Fury X to be that attractive of a graphics card, but the reference Fury is hot as hell. It’d be even better if we were able to see it on a white background!

As it appears right now, only ASUS and Sapphire will be selling Fury models, and based on the review sample situation, I’m not sure that launch supply is going to be incredibly healthy (one of these vendors received a mere 2 cards to hand out for review). We can hope that the situation will dramatically improve as the weeks pass.

The Fury X falls just behind NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 980 Ti overall, whereas the Fury should find itself ahead of the GTX 980 in most cases. That’s a good thing, as Fury will retail for $50 more than the 980.

Since we didn’t receive a sample, there’s really not much more we can say, but if you already know what Fury X is all about, the table above can probably tell you everything you need to know anyway.
