AMD Recognized Among Leading Corporate Citizens
– AMD Included on CRO Magazine’s Corporate Responsibility List and the Global 100 –
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Feb 14, 2007 – AMD (NYSE: AMD) today
announced its No. 2 ranking on the “100 Best Corporate Citizens” list
for 2007 by CRO magazine. The “100 Best Corporate Citizens” list
identifies companies that excel at combining strong financial
performance with responsible practices on environmental and social
issues. This is the second consecutive year AMD has been recognized in
the top five on the list for its corporate and social responsibility
practices.
AMD was also recently included in The Global 100 Most
Sustainable Corporations in the World. The annual Global 100, unveiled
each year at the World Economic Forum in Davos, is a list of role models
in sustainable business practices. The Global 100 recognizes
publicly-traded, blue-chip companies who have the best-developed
abilities, relative to their industry peers, to manage environmental,
social and governance risks. It also focuses on organizations that
invest in new business opportunities in this area.
“AMD’s core value, respect for people, is a guiding principle
for how we interact with our employees, customers, partners, communities
and the environment,” said Dirk Meyer, president and chief operating
officer, AMD. “By providing a safe and healthy work environment,
contributing to the communities in which we operate, protecting the
environment, and delivering technologies and business models to create
opportunity for underserved populations, AMD is proof that economic
success and social initiatives can – and should – go hand-in-hand.”
The 100 Best Corporate Citizens list was developed by Business
Ethics magazine, which was incorporated last year into The CRO
(www.thecro.com), a premier membership organization for Corporate
Responsibility Officers. The list is drawn from more than 1,100 of the
largest United States publicly traded companies.
“The 100 Best Corporate Citizens list is focused on companies
that demonstrate a long-term commitment to embracing higher standards,”
said Michael Connor, publisher and editor, CRO magazine. “For multiple
years, AMD’s leadership in the field of corporate social responsibility
has earned the company an increasingly impressive ranking on our list.”
The 100 Best Corporate Citizens list uses data from Socrates,
the online social research database created by KLD Research & Analytics
in Boston, an independent research firm serving investment management
professionals, to put a numerical rating on companies’ service to
various stakeholders.
The companies considered for the list include U.S. firms in the
Russell 1000, the S&P 500, and the Domini 400 Social Index. These firms
are ranked on service in eight stakeholder categories: shareholders,
community, governance, diversity, employees, environment, human rights,
and product. Social scores use KLD’s assessment of “strengths” and
“concerns” demonstrated in each category. The shareholder score is
based on three-year average total return (stock appreciation plus
dividends) through year-end 2006.
