AMD last month launched a humor site called GPU Tube that helped lead up to the Radeon HD 6800 series launch, and I’ve been meaning to talk about it for a while. With a nudge from AMD, I was reminded, so here it is! This site features a “reporter” named Jason Sparrow who goes to AMD’s Canadian headquarters to do some investigative sleuthing. What does he find out?
Not much, to be honest, but that’s part of the reason this mini-series is so humorous. Anytime Jason is about to find out something interesting, he’s cut off and offered some sort of AMD swag, from a beachball to an espresso maker to a puppet… things I’m sure a lot of viewers are interested in getting their own hands on!
Throughout the series, there are a couple of subtle bits of humor thrown in. Look closely in one, and you might see some NVIDIA GPU boxes. In another, you’re introduced to the creatively-named Thara Phlopp. Unlike a lot of videos that we see produced by tech companies, these are actually quite funny, and I admit I laughed out loud a couple of times (something that never happens with these things).
In addition, the site also links to a contest being held that offers up eight Radeon HD 6850 GPUs for grabs, so if you are interested in hooking yourself up with some of AMD’s latest GPU tech, don’t miss it.
In Episode 1 of GPUTube.com’s new “Graphic Content” series, esteemed host Jason Sparrow meets the Radeon Graphics team at the AMD Campus in Canada, and sees first-hand how only the best goes into an AMD Radeon graphics processor.
