Antec introduced a new family of PC chassis at Computex. The Signature series will undoubtedly be the company’s top-tier line of chassis, as evidenced by the first product from the line, the S10.
The Antec Signature S10 features a what the company is calling a patent-pending Three Chamber Design. What Antec has done, essentially, is divide the three primary heat-producing zones in a chassis interior – the Hard Disk Drive Chamber, the Motherboard Chamber, and the Power Supply Chamber – and isolated them from each other. While this is not an altogether original idea (Antec itself did something similar with its P180 almost ten years ago!), the idea of being able to control and fine-tune the airflow through each of these distinct compartments is innovative.
Speaking of cooling, the S10 comes with seven (!) strategically placed fans out of the box, with the option to add one more. Water-cooling enthusiasts might wet themselves (in excitement!) with the S10, since the chassis is capable of supporting radiators of various sizes: 240/280mm up top, 360/280/240mm in a central chamber, and 120mm at the rear exhaust position.
The S10 is equipped to handle the most extreme hardware configurations, including Quad-SLI. It features ten PCI expansion slots, so if you’re using the S10 you’d better not have a weenie mini-ITX system (although you could use it for that).
The photos we’ve seen so far show a chassis with sleek and elegant styling. Equipped with swing-out doors, access to the interior should be easy. Incidentally, the interior features the usual cable management-friendly amenities we’ve come to expect such as strategically positioned grommet-covered openings in the motherboard tray as well as drive bays that can host six 3.5 HDDs and eight 2.5″ storage devices. Yes, the S10 can host up to fourteen storage devices!
The S10 is a hand-assembled masterpiece. Fit and finish of the various components should be flawless. Alas, all this comes at a price. $499 is the reported MSRP for the S10. That’s a high asking price. But if the S10 can deliver everything it seems to promise…
