Apple continues its quest for world domination with its next big endeavor – iOS in the car. Apple first mentioned this at its annual WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) in 2013, but now has named its first three manufacturing partners – Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo.
“Car Play” as it is currently dubbed will truly blend your phone to your car, utilizing Siri, the digital assistant offered by Apple. The new dashboard software is designed to be safe for drivers to use, offering completely hands free controls via voice commands. These include but are not limited to music, GPS driving directions, phone calls and more. You will need an iPhone 5 or newer, running iOS 7 to be compatible with the service.
Apple also announced other partnerships with more companies including Ford, General Motors, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot, Subaru and Suzuki.
This would certainly appear to be a market dominating move by the Cupertino fruit company. Personally being an iPhone enthusiast, I think it is fabulous. Say what you want about iOS, its reliability and simplicity make it an ideal selection to be in a car.
