If the folks at All Things Digital are to be believed – and they sure do seem confident – September 10th will be the date Apple unveils its next iPhone. That’s about all we know “for sure” at this point, though. Whether we’ll see a new flagship, a la iPhone 5S, or the much-rumored “affordable” model, iPhone 5C – or both – we’ll have to wait and see.

If the iPhone 5S is announced, it’ll be sure to have greater performance, an improved camera, and thanks to an acquisition of fingerprint security company AuthenTec last year, a fingerprint scanner. What I’m really interested in seeing is how Apple integrates a fingerprint scanner into an iPhone, because generally speaking, they’re far from attractive.
If it’s the iPhone 5C we see, the supposed “affordable” model, it could very-well shake up the entire mobile market – if “affordable” is anyone else’s idea of “affordable”, that is. If an iPhone were to come out smack-dab in the middle of Android’s hottest price-point, we might see the current trend of Android’s growth come to a halt, and potentially even backtrack.
Also according to All Things Digital, it’s highly unlikely that OS X “Mavericks” will be shown-off at this Sept. 10th event, and the same could be said about its other upcoming products, such as the iWatch and anything related to the TV. That leads us to believe that this event will be just for an iPhone, which leads me to believe both an S and C – or whatever the latter will actually be called – might be unveiled at the same time.
