It’s hard to believe that a full two months have passed since the iPad’s announcement, but it’s true. After that short stint of waiting, Apple launched the device over the weekend to much demand and zeal from fans and consumers all over. So much so, that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find something to complain about, despite the device’s obvious shortcomings (multi-tasking arguably being the largest).
The same day that the iPad was announced, complaints stemmed from all over the Web about its issues, but many of those have seem to waned now that the device is actually here and people have their hands on one. In looking around the Web, there doesn’t seem to be too many complaints, although apparently the device does have difficulty charging in some USB ports (namely, on older computers).
That’s hardly a major issue, however, and it seems that most people are already pleased with their latest purchase. An analyst for Piper Jaffray predicted that between 600,000 – 700,000 units were sold on the first day, which is a stark change from his earlier prediction of 200,000 – 300,000. On a side note, if there is a job out there where I get paid to guess numbers with multiples of 100,000, I really need to get a move on to look for it…
According to various quotes from consumers that USA Today polled, the excitement isn’t about to die soon. While some people claim the iPad will replace their laptop, others are pleased to admit that it’s a great solution for quick computing, or relaxed computing (such as lying on a couch or in a chair). Also, from initial reports it appears that the battery-life is very, very good, almost living up to its 10 hour rating. The screen is also “crystal clear”, another plus, although unsurprising.
Do any of you out there own an iPad, or are planning to pick one up? Or, have you had the chance to use one? Either way, what do you think of it so far? Initial fad or something that’s sure to pick up steam?
Update: Apple has sent out a press release that states that just over 300,000 iPad’s were sold on the first day.
Most Apple Stores were closed Sunday for Easter, and the handful that were open — in Arlington, Va., Chicago, New York City and Atlantic City, N.J. — reported limited availability of the iPad when contacted by USA TODAY. Apple Stores open in New York said Sunday afternoon they were sold out of certain models, and in Los Angeles, a Mac Mall retail store had just two iPads left.
