It’s interesting that while finger print readers are far from a “new” technology, we still don’t see them used all too often in tech products – despite their beneficial uses. Sure, we have some packed into some modern smartphones, but they’re largely exclusive to $400+ models. We also see them featured on notebooks from time to time. But the big question is: if finger print readers would make our lives easier, why on Earth are we not seeing them a lot more often?
Well, Thermaltake’s latest release could be a sign that things are changing. About half-a-year ago, Synaptics unveiled a new finger print reader that puts the utmost emphasis on user protection, and now, we see that being implemented in a gaming mouse: Tt eSPORTS’ BLACK FP. It’s about time.
As seen in the shot above, the Advanced BLACK FP mouse sports a vertically aligned finger print reader on the left thumb rest for an easy reach. It can be configured through the included software, and if you don’t want your thumb to be used for the purpose, you could use any other – whatever’s most convenient, or comfortable.
Once secured, your finger print will be encrypted behind super-strong AES256. That’s important, because this mouse won’t just allow you to sign into Windows, it’ll also use the finger print reader to input passwords into websites, a la a solution like LastPass.
In addition to its security feature, the Black FP includes 7 programmable buttons (two are on the left side, none on the right), red LED illumination, and a rugged scroll wheel. Under the hood is the AVAGO 9500 laser sensor, allowing DPI up to 5700.
Like the cut of this mouse’s jib? You can purchase it now for $60. Just don’t ask us where (we’d expect it to pop up on the likes of Newegg and Amazon soon).
