ASUS has a great reputation on the router front, and its latest model, RT-AC87, is sure to turn some heads. Utilizing Quantenna’s 4×4 MU-MIMO (multiple user, multiple input multiple output) chipset, the RT-AC87 is being marketed as the fasted 5 GHz router available for purchase. Going beyond speed, the router promises to provide increased range as well.
“As the number of wireless devices in the home increases, so does the importance of Wi-Fi quality. Our customers value high-performance Wi-Fi and know the importance of a reliable and fast wireless connection in order to stream bandwidth-intensive data. The RT-AC87 provides them with class leading performance, as well as incredible range and reliability,” said Margaret Chen, President of Open Platform Business (OPBG) Group for ASUS Computer International.
Using four external antennas and “Universal Beamforming”, the RT-AC87 provides increased throughput throughout the user’s home or place of business, as well as increasing signal strength to older 802.11a/b/g/n devices. Marketed directly at home media consumers, the RT-AC87 is capable of delivering throughput to accommodate the increasingly popular 4K video. Not only this, but with its MU-MIMO, the router can deliver consistent and reliable signal to multiple devices on the same network.
Back is the competent firmware many have enjoyed, providing network management and security features. Also available is TrendMicro real-time network monitoring to help head off malware and “other intrusions” before they can reach your PC or other device.
Available soon in North America, the RT-AC87 comes with an MSRP of $269.99.
