Over the years, we’ve seen many vendors try to make the sleekest, sexiest, and most stylish products possible. I am not sure any have been as fervent about it as ASUS, though, and now, its admiration for artistic design continues with its latest all-in-one PC, called Zen AiO.
I hate to take this route right from the get-go, but the Zen AiO boasts Apple-like levels of design, with a unibody shell forged from a single block of anodized-aluminum which tapers to result in edges just 6mm thick. This design carries through to the stand, which is also aluminum. It appears that Zen AiO will come in just a single color, called Icicle Gold.
The Zen AiO isn’t just about design, it’s about performance. Based on the specs we’re given, it sounds like we might not see Zen AiO until Intel’s Skylake gets released this fall, as ASUS touts the fact that the PC can take advantage of up to 32GB of DDR4 memory. For processing duties, up to a Core i7 can be used, as well as NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX960M, which will include 4GB of VRAM.
The vendor is not mentioned, but Zen AiO will keep feeling super-fast thanks to the inclusion of an x4 PCIe 3.0 SSD. As cool as that is, though, it’s not that impressive: what might be is the fact that this will also take advantage of Intel’s RealSense camera technology. That could potentially allow people to interact with their PCs through motion, something that could be made accurate thanks to the use of multiple cameras. ASUS’ PC won’t be the first to include this technology, but to my knowledge it’s the first to hit an AiO desktop. For audio, the Zen AiO includes six speakers, which, when combined, offer 16W of total power.
No release date has been mentioned, nor has pricing. Unless the mention of DDR4 was a typo, it seems certain we’ll see Zen AiO come out as soon as Intel lets its Skylake processors loose in late summer or early fall.
