For about as long as NVIDIA has been touting 3D Vision, it has been promoting a kit that bundles both a monitor and the 3D Vision package together, effectively giving people a one-stop shop for getting into 3D on the PC. The monitor was the 2233RZ, and anyone who has read up on 3D Vision in the past no doubt recalls that model number as it was plastered everywhere.
Well, it finally looks like that model is finally being pushed aside, and the favor is going towards ASUS’ brand-new VG236H… a 23″ offering. As it is now, this is the only monitor I can find reference to on NVIDIA’s site, so it’s apparent that it has become the recommended choice for gamers. After taking a look at the specs, I can begin to understand why.
The VG236H features a 2ms gray-to-gray response time, for what we can assume is both 2D and 3D (the official specs don’t split the two up). The brightness is 400 cd/m2, which makes it a fair bit brighter than the Samsung’s 300 cd/m2. It also bumps up the contrast ratio to 100,000:1, and has an anti-glare panel… something that the Samsung can’t boast about.
Oh, and how can I not mention the nice increase in resolution to 1920×1080 from 1680×1050? The monitor also happens to improve upon the Samsung’s aesthetics, but that’s all in a matter of opinion. It definitely looks more gamer-esque than the Samsung.
The VG236H should become available next week for around $500, which includes the NVIDIA 3D Vision kit, while it will become available as a stand-alone in mid-August for $339.
ASUS’ Color Shine technology featuring a 400-nit brightness capability lets users enjoy vibrant colors while ergonomically-designed features like swivel, tilt angle, and height adjustments ensure viewing comfort even after prolonged periods of use. The VG236H features YPbPr, Dual-Link DVI and HDMI input ports to ensure a wide variety connectivity options. ASUS’ VG236H is the ideal monitor to experience the internet, Blu-ray movies, and games in 3D.
