It seems that all GPU vendors want to have their own GPU tweaking / monitoring tool, with ASUS being the latest to hop on the bandwagon. With its “GPU Tweak” utility, the company claims that it’s delivering the most feature-packed, customizable and comprehensive tuning utility in the market. Like other tools, an ASUS-branded graphics card is not required to make use of the tool, but it could be that in time, special features will be unlocked for those with ASUS gear.
In gist, GPU Tweak’s main goal is to offer you an all-inclusive solution that will allow you to both overclock and monitor your GPU. It was built in conjunction with the developer of GPU-Z, an utility that’s about as synonymous as GPU monitoring itself. The program is comprised of two main sections that can be used independently; either or can be started up at Windows boot time without the other.
In the main portion of the application, clock speeds, voltages (requires ‘Advance Mode’) and fan speeds can be adjusted. In the opposite, GPU temps, GPU usage, VID usage, FB usage and GPU voltage can all be monitored. Other features including video recording (that I am anxious to test out) and the ability to force the way your fan ramps up. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a feature to allow temperature recording (to a log file), which to me is important.
Overall though, the tool is quite attractive and looks to do its job well. It seems a bit clunky to me at this point in time, but as this is one of the first releases, I am sure things will improve over time. I should also note that from what I can tell, GPU Tweak has already been available for a couple of months, but it’s with this version, 3.0, that the company has begun promoting it to the market. If you’re looking for an EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner replacement, make this your next download.
