Mercury Research will be releasing an article soon detailing some interesting figures regarding the market share of the various GPU developers. While not officially released just yet, X-bit Labs have listed some of the details including the important number of AMD’s market share as of the first quarter 2010.
With a number of 49.7%, a 9% increase over the previous quarter, AMD is set to take just over half the market share of the graphics market. With the Success of ATI’s 4000 and 5000 series architectures and a large push in the mobile market, this is not surprising. Nvidia’s late release of the GTX 400 series would have also pushed ATI’s market share as well within the first quarter, however, now that Nvidia has started to release its lineup, we’ll have to wait and see if ATI can hold onto this share into the second quarter.
This aside, it will be interesting to see the affect Nvidia has had on Intel’s mobile market share with it’s push on Ion and Tegra based systems. In the long run, things will start to heat up as both Intel and AMD start to integrate their GPU’s into their respective CPU’s, giving them an edge in the platform sector. Everything is still to play for in the HPC market as the software develops to take advantage of the massively parallel nature of GPU’s.
ATI, graphics business unit of Advanced Micro Devices, has gained a substantial chunk of the standalone graphics processor market in the first quarter of 2010, according to analysts from Mercury Research. The achievement signifies success of ATI Radeon HD 5000- and 4000-series graphics processing units (GPUs).
