Following a late-night leak, Bandai Namco has today revealed that Tekken 7 is en route. As Tekken 6 was released in late 2009, fans are definitely feeling like this next iteration is a little overdue. But, there is a slight (but probably expected) downside: The game won’t be out this year.
To celebrate the unveiling, a trailer has been released. But don’t expect anything in way of gameplay – it seems certain that the game is still in its infancy.
While the game’s announcement is big news in itself, it’s also proven to be a big win for Epic. The company’s Unreal Engine 4 will be used to build the game, which will take the hassle off of developers to design their own engine, instead allowing them to get down to business on the core mechanics and every other aspect of the game.
Because Tekken 7 is being built around Unreal Engine 4, which is about as cross-platform as a game engine could get, it’s my hope that we’ll see the game drop for the PC. After all, Tekken‘s producer Katsuhiro Harada had this to say: “Not only is Unreal Engine 4 powerful and easy to use, but it allows us to immediately bring TEKKEN 7 to any platform we desire.”
Bandai Namco will be exhibiting at San Diego’s Comic-Con later this month (July 25th, to be exact), so we’ll hopefully be learning more about platform support there.
