be quiet! may not be making a ton of noise as far as headlines and market share here in the North American market, but it does have a firm foothold in certain sectors. The German manufacturer is known best as a power supply unit and aftermarket CPU cooling solutions provider, with a smaller presence in the system fans market as well.
Market diversification, though, is a key component to any business’ plans for expansion. Accordingly, be quiet! has just announced the launch of its very first “high-end” PC chassis, the Silent Base 800.
be quiet! says that the Silent Base 800 “offers the perfect symbiosis of noise prevention and cooling performance, a good usability, and an extensive capacity for high-end hardware.”
Based on available information, the Silent Base 800 looks like it should go far towards delivering on these promises. For example, its top, bottom and side panels are designed to minimize noise output while also allowing optimized air intake for maximized cooling. Specifically, the front and side panels are endowed with sound insulation materials/construction. Moreover, the left side panel features a multi-mode cover which users can adjust for maximum silence, maximum cooling (through the addition of an optional fan), or a balance between these two conditions. Airflow into and through the chassis seems to be well thought-out as well.
Meanwhile, well-placed openings in the chassis’ interior should facilitate excellent cable routing and CPU cooler changes, thereby promoting good usability. And while it may seem that this next item should have been mentioned one paragraph earlier, the multiple options for water cooling radiator installation also fall under the purview of a chassis’ usability. The Silent Base 800 can literally be a silent base for a 2 x 120mm/140mm radiator up top, a 2 x 120mm/140mm radiator up front, and a 120mm radiator in the rear exhaust position.
As far as having an extensive capacity for high-end hardware, well, the Silent Base 800 can accommodate up to seven 3.5″ HDDs and four 2.5″ storage devices. The retention mechanisms for these are all tool-less (another nod to good usability). The hard drive cages are modular and removable, which guarantees compatibility with virtually every graphics card you may want to use in your system.
be quiet! says its Silent Base 800 will be available from November 24, 2014 in several color options: Black + orange, all-black, and black + silver are all possible choices for users. MSRP is $139.90.
