“Frankly, we’re sick of moaning about historical RTS games. There are just so many of them attempting to grab your attention, yet most have little in the way of originality and selling points between them. Empire Earth 2 has managed to put a gag on our moaning for now by being an extraordinarily detailed RTS with a wealth of fresh ideas that have been well implemented into a competent engine.
Although the sequel to Stainless Steel’s 2001 original (plus expansion), it has actually been developed by Mad Doc Software (whose cinematic at the start is overlong and shit, incidentally). Mad Doc have delivered a game bursting with so much detail, it’s actually rather bewildering to begin with. Empire Earth’s grandiose name is rather appropriate, as the game contains around 14 civilisations to get to grips with. It’s also not entirely correct to refer to it as a historical RTS either, as it’s not overly bothered about historical fact throughout, plus there are actually portions of the game that are set in the future.”
