Progress marches on and it looks like it’s Best Buy who is high stepping to Apple’s beat. Today it was reported that the retail giant has suspended online sales of the current MacBook Air in preparation for Apple’s refresh of the little white laptop.
The reason for all of this is the expected upgrades in the form of Intel’s Sandy Bridge processor and Thunderbolt port. There is also word of the refreshed units shipping with a Gold Master build of OS X Lion. The latest OS upgrade is due to be released in July.
While not a Mac user (or lover), I can appreciate the performance gains to be had. Current generation units ship with a Core2Duo processor; the increase in horsepower is sure to be incredible as well as helping extend battery life.
As usual, prices for the different models is not available but it will be interesting to see what the new features add to the already high price tag of about $1000.
Apple is expected to refresh the MacBook Air line with Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors and the addition of the Thunderbolt port. However, people familiar with the matter have told AppleInsider that Apple is waiting until it can load a Gold Master build of Mac OS X Lion onto the notebooks before releasing them.
