Due to time, I was unable to get my ‘Best Playable’ testing with NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 980 complete in time for article publishing, so I spent some time over the weekend taking care of that. Admittedly, testing was completed on Friday night, but as I had immediately gotten myself engulfed in other testing, it took me two full days to get the results compiled and placed into the review. So, for those that appreciate such results, they’re now ready for your consumption.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 – Best Playable
After all that laborious testing (I kid – I’m quickly catching up on Top Gear thanks to all of this testing!), it’s easily seen that 2560×1440 is no match for the GTX 980. You can safely expect to max-out most high-end games just fine. The main exception from our suite with regards to that was Crysis 3, but it still managed to hit “Very High” in some cases, whereas the 780 Ti couldn’t.
On the multi-monitor front, the GTX 980 continued to impress. Versus the 290X and 780 Ti, it allowed us to have much higher detail all-around with AC IV: Black Flag, and became the first card we’ve tested that has allowed us to max out all of the options in GRID 2 and still hit 60 FPS. Also, it must be said that 85 FPS in Sleeping Dogs was quite attractive.
In addition to tackling the Best Playable testing over the weekend, I also managed to find a suitable stable overclock on the GTX 980 and then thoroughly test it. Those results will come later, but not before a full look at ASUS’ GeForce GTX 970 STRIX, seen below. That card boasts an impressive 200MHz pre-overclock, so I’m not sure how much further it’ll go, but it’ll be fun finding out.
Stay tuned for a full review of this card, as well as a look at overclocking it as well as the GTX 980.
