Volkswagen AG announced that the final Bugatti Veyron – a targa-topped Grand Sport – has just been sold to a customer in the Middle East. Called “La Finale,” the 450th Veyron will grace Bugatti’s display at the Geneva Auto Show, which starts next week.
While the Veyron is certainly not the prettiest supercar ever (at least in this writer’s opinion; Techgage supremo Rob, who adores this car, threatens to murder me every time I suggest the Veyron looks like a jellybean with wheels, or a Volkswagen Beetle with a horseshoe grille on the nose, different shapes for headlights, and flatter fenders), it’s definitely one of the greatest in terms of engineering.
The auto’s quad-turbo (!) 8.0L W16 engine is as exotic as it is powerful, capable of punching out 1200 bhp. The Veyron certainly is one of the fastest-ever production cars, capable of a verified 267.856 mph (for the Grand Sport Vitesse version).

Volkswagen, by the way, owns the Bugatti name and company.
Car enthusiasts everywhere will take Volkswagen’s news with a bit of sorrow, surely. But think of things this way: Just imagine what Bugatti might have up its sleeve for an encore.
And, at the risk of tweaking Rob more at what’s surely a time of sadness for him (I can hear him sobbing like a little girl at his desk right now as I write this), I just hope that whatever it is Bugatti does next is a lot prettier.
