Over the weekend, the world’s best tournament fighting gamers went head-to-head in the Evo Championship Series, held at the Paris hotel in Las Vegas. Many upsets and surprises were seen, and for those who may have missed out on some of them (or all of them), I’d recommend heading on over to Kotaku where they can be easily found.
Not all of the surprises were limited to just the competition – Capcom had something up its sleeve. Despite the last major addition to the Street Fighter IV series having come out in 2011 (in the form of Super SF IV: Arcade Edition), the company announced an update due out in early 2014, now revealed as Ultra Street Fighter IV. This should effectively mark the absolute end to the SF IV series, with SF V due up next.
As with most major releases to a given Street Fighter series, Ultra is an update, and will both be sold stand-alone ($40) or as DLC ($15) for those who own the other base editions. Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and the PC will each have access to this update. The official trailer can be seen below:
Five new characters are being added, including Rolento, Poison, Hugo and Elena – all featured in Street Fighter X Tekken. Capcom is keeping the fifth character secret at the moment, but it’s expected that it will be a never-before-seen entrant. Ultra also boasts 6 new stages, and as usual, new modes will be added. Likewise, a roster rebalancing will also take place, based entirely on fan feedback.
A specific release date isn’t available at the moment, but we’d expect to see it no later than Q1.
