What kind of digital lifestyle editor would I be if I didn’t talk about Hauppauge’s HD PVR 2 Model 1512 and HD PVR 2 GE Plus? Announced at CES in Las Vegas, the HD PVR 2 is the company-whose-name-is-impossible-to-spell’s latest two offerings for those who take video recording seriously.
Starting with the HD PVR 2 Model 1512, a device engineered for “home media enthusiasts”, it allows users to create a library of their favorite cable or satellite TV recordings. Compatible with Windows Media Center for Win 7 and Win 8, the HD PVR 2 can be programmed to change the channels of a set top box using the IR blaster at a designated time.
For us gamers, the HD PVR 2 GE Plus comes equipped with S/PDIF and a full surround sound setup that allows complete recording of in-game action. Engineered to be used with all major gaming platforms (PC, Xbox 360 and PS3), the S/PDIF can record the surround sound audio along with the game play video in high-definition.
Available at the start of February, both models will make their way to retailers in North America and Europe. Pricing for the GE Plus is around $150, while the pricing for the PVR 2 Model 1512 will have to wait.
