The doors to CES 2017 only opened a few short hours ago and before they did, the inundation of announcements began. Last night we spent some time with NETGEAR at the Pepcom Digital Experience. At that show, NETGEAR was showing off an array of new products, many of which were CES Innovation award winners.
At its booth was the popular Orbi, the company’s mesh wireless product. Also, being shown off was the beastly X10 Nighthawk, the first commercial router with Plex media server baked into it. Also available on the X10 is a single 10Gb port for ultra-high throughput to whatever network that supports it (think business).
The first NETGEAR product announced at CES 2017 to catch our eye was the Arlo Baby. An extension of the popular Arlo. Like other smart home monitoring cameras; the Arlo Baby is designed for parents looking to take a more active role in the monitoring of their nursery. Designed with a nursery in mind, the Arlo Baby offers a good list of features for a baby-monitoring camera. Features like a music player, air quality sensors and built-in multi-colored lighting, make the Arlo Baby more than just a monitor.
At the heart of the Arlo Baby is a 1080p HD video camera with IR capabilities that lets you see your child’s room at night. A built-in rechargeable battery allows the camera to be moved around the nursery without having to worry about being near a wall outlet. That said, we’ve been told that the batter life of the Arlo Baby is only around 7-8 hours, so perhaps leaving it plugged in would be in most people’s best interests.
The Arlo smart analytics platform provides real-time, customizable alerts when motion or sound is detected. Arlo Baby can even tell you if the detected sound is your baby’s crying.
With rolling 7 days of free cloud recordings, Arlo Baby monitoring camera will ensure you never miss a precious moment. Arlo Baby’s appearance can even be personalized by turning the camera into adorable characters such as a bunny, a cat, or a puppy to be a friendly addition to your nursery.
The optional Arlo Baby 7-inch LCD touchscreen display not only provides parents with a better, uninterrupted monitoring experience, but also allows them to use the Arlo Baby without any dependency on the home WiFi network. For example, the display and camera can be used when visiting with relatives or friends without connecting to their wireless network for internet access.
“When we looked at other baby monitoring solutions, it became clear to us that we had an opportunity to develop a product that would significantly improve the experience of baby monitoring for today’s busy Moms and Dads,” said Pat Collins, senior vice president of Arlo products at NETGEAR. “With exceptional 1080p video both day and night, crystal clear audio and smart analytics that provide instant alerts when the baby is crying or when their environment has changed, Arlo Baby is a giant leap forward in baby monitoring technology. And with our easy-to-use mobile app, parents will feel connected to their baby whether they are across the globe or in the next room”.
