It’s been a while, but Cooler Master is finally launching its highly anticipated modular PC chassis design, the MasterCase Maker 5. We saw it showcased back at CES 2016, and even further back at Computex, so the design has been gaining attention for some time. In what CM calls its FreeForm Modular System, the case allows users to to add, replace and swap out parts of both the interior and exterior; adding mesh panels, different I/O options, and a multitude of cages and support struts.
The MasterCase Maker 5 is a mid-tower chassis that can be customized to a fit a number of different configurations, from home servers, water-cooled rigs, multi-GPU gaming, or a silent tower. The front panel comes equipped with 4x USB ports, including a Type-C, and buttons for LED and fan control. The top panel can be solid or replaced with mesh for improved airflow, and the front panel can be fitted with sound dampening.
There are a number of accessory kits available with individual pricing, allowing you to add or change parts as you wish. There’s a tempered glass side panel, different top covers, cooling bracket supports, LED fans, and a graphics card support bracket to stop the GPUs from sagging/bending.

On the inside, the HDD and SSD cages can be moved around or removed completely to make for extra space for additional GPUs, a water-cooling loop, or more fans. There’s room on the front for three 140mm fans, or a large 280mm radiator (once you move the HDD cage). There’s room behind the motherboard tray to tuck away a fan controller. Cooler Master also goes the extra mile to include a compartmental box to store all the extra screws and fittings that can magnetically attach to the inside of the box, so you don’t lose any pieces.
The expected retail price for the MasterCase Maker 5 is around $190 and should be available soon.
