It’s not often we receive a press release that makes us scratch our heads before opening, but when Cooler Master claimed to be releasing some square fans, we felt intrigued. OK… the actual fans are not square; rather, the casing is, giving it a clean aesthetic. Cooler Master is releasing three SKUs for this collection, two of which are single-fan, and the other, a three-fan unit.
When we first looked at the SF360R ARGB, we thought it was just three fans placed next to each other. Instead, this is one literal unit that houses three separate fans. The advantage? A clean aesthetic, and a single unit for affixing to triple-sized radiators. It seems a bit odd that there isn’t a 2-fan variant, given coolers of that size are likely more common than the triples, but perhaps that will come.
Of the single-fan SKUs, there is both an RGB and aRGB option available. The regular RGB fan can only be one color at a time, whereas the addressable aRGB unit lets you configure multiple colors at a time. All of the fans plug into software suites from ASUS, MSI, and ASRock.
The product page for the triple-fan unit is down as of the time of writing, but it seems likely that its fans would be spec’d similarly to the others. Those specs are 650~2000 RPM, up to 59 CFM, with noise levels of 8~30dBA. All fans include header extenders so that you can team up multiple devices to plug into the 4-pin RGB motherboard connector.
Currently, only the non-addressable single fan seems to be available, at Amazon ($19.99). Prices were not mentioned in the press release, but it seems like the others could hit the street pretty soon. If you’ve ever needed a square fan, or a rectangular mega fan, you now have your options.
