The market for “minimalistic” mechanical keyboards is huge – planks that emphasize a clean, simple design, rather than gaming luxuries or dedicated media keys. While I appreciate such design goals, I do admit that I’m a sucker for LEDs – to me, nothing beats having a simple keyboard with a bit of color. Customizable color is even better.
Well, that’s just what we get with Cooler Master’s new QuickFire XTi. The company itself even calls the keyboard “minimalistic”, as well as “powerful on the inside”. I’m not sure what that means, exactly, but the keyboard refrains from using knock-off switches, packing in CHERRY MX instead.
While RGB mechs seem to be a dime a dozen lately, the QuickFire XTi can’t be tossed into the same pile. Interestingly, Cooler Master decided to forego a green LED and stick to just red and blue. That gives users the option of 35 different shades of blue, purple, orange, and red to take advantage of. It’s an interesting design choice. As the shot below shows, the LEDs can be configured on a per-key basis.
The QuickFire XTi includes a detachable cable, which is a love-it-or-hate-it feature. If you’re in the latter camp, you should be happy to know that the keyboard includes three tracks that the cable can be routed through.
The XTi is available right now at Newegg and Amazon for $150.
