SATA-based SSDs are certainly good enough for most users, but for anyone that wants or needs a high-performance SSD, the future will be M.2 solid-state drives. Toward this end Corsair is serving up its fastest SSDs ever for enthusiasts to gobble up just in time for the holidays, the MP500 Force Series M.2 SSDs.
These M.2 NVMe drives incorporate the full PCIe x4 interface, and put it to good use with Corsair indicating sequential ATTO read speeds up to 3,000MB/s and writes not far behind at a sizzling 2,400MB/s. Surprisingly Corsair also quotes CrystalDiskMark results of 2,800MB/s and 1,500MB/s respectively – it is nice to see a company being honest by including more than just the best-case bench results for a change. As for random reads and writes IOmeter delivers 250K and 210K IOPS, respectively.
The drives utilize the Phison PS5007-E7 controller and feature a serious 698TB endurance rating which would make the three-year warranty a no-brainer. Corsair includes a cookbook of assorted technologies like SmartECC, SmartRefresh and SmartFlush to, and we quote, “safeguard data against corruption in case of unexpected power loss or unsafe shutdown, while static and dynamic wear-leveling enhance drive reliability.”
In a refreshing change of pace, MP500 drives are already available to purchase direct from Corsair’s own site at $110 for the 120GB model, $170 for the 240GB model, and lastly $325 for the 480GB drive. A little bird has told us that despite drives not even in stock yet Newegg is already listing the MP500 drives $5-10 lower, and with free shipping. One thing is for sure, shoppers will certainly have many great recipes, err.. NVMe M.2 drives to choose from this holiday season.
